Silchester Farm’s Story

A place for special days and memorable stays

Silchester Farm is a historic Hampshire farm, lovingly restored into a countryside destination where people come to celebrate, connect and slow down. Whether you're here for a wedding, a retreat, a dinner or a stay - we hope it feels like somewhere you could easily call your happy place.

A place where people come together to celebrate, to connect, and to step away from the pace of everyday life - even if just for a little while.

Whether it’s a wedding, a gathering, or time spent with colleagues or friends, everything here is designed to feel easy, welcoming and quietly special.

Today, Silchester Farm is home to weddings, retreats and stays - a place where guests can settle in, slow down and make the most of their time together.

Set within the Hampshire countryside, yet within easy reach of London, it offers the feeling of escape without being far away.

Every space has been shaped with care, balancing character and comfort, so that it feels both inspiring and relaxed from the moment you arrive.

The experience

What matters most to us is how people feel when they’re here.

We believe in creating something that feels incredible - not through excess or show, but through thoughtful detail, atmosphere and care.

There is a natural ease to Silchester Farm. While the setting is beautiful, the experience is always warm, friendly and down to earth.

Part of something bigger

We are proud to be in Silchester and to contribute positively to the village and local area. Whether through the people we work with, the suppliers we support, or the way we run the farm, we aim to be a place that adds value beyond our gates.

Silchester Farm isn’t separate from its surroundings — it’s part of the village, the landscape and the people around it.

We work with local suppliers not just because it sounds good, but because it keeps things connected. It supports real people nearby and keeps the character of what we do intact.

We want to be a place that adds something positive - to the community, to the land, and to the people who spend time here.

A sense of history, a focus on now

Silchester Farm has been part of the local landscape for generations.

Today, it continues to evolve - shaped not by the past alone, but by the experiences created here now, and the people who bring it to life.

There’s a lot of history here. You can feel it in the land, in the layout, in the details you don’t always notice straight away.

Our approach

Everything we do is guided by a few simple principles:

  • To offer exceptional service that feels genuine and thoughtful.

  • To create an atmosphere that is inspiring but never overwhelming.

  • To treat people, place and purpose with respect.

  • And to remain grounded, honest and welcoming in everything we do.

We don’t believe in overcomplicating things or trying to be something we’re not.

We believe in doing things well — and doing them with care.

Your happy place

At its heart, Silchester Farm is a place people return to - for celebrations, for time together, for a change of pace. A place that feels familiar, even the first time you arrive.

Being honest about it

We care about doing things properly, but we’re not pretending to be perfect.

  • We still run oil boilers.

  • We still use petrol and diesel vehicles.

  • We don’t have solar installed yet (although we’re working on it).

  • And yes - occasionally the Lamborghini makes an appearance.

None of that gets hidden.

What matters to us is that we keep moving in the right direction. Making better decisions where we can, improving things over time, and being honest about where we’re at.

What we're here for

We exist to make people happy. Not through excess or show, but through good food, genuine warmth and a setting that does the heavy lifting quietly.

Incredible, but humble. Beautiful, but down to earth. A place where, if we've done our job, you'll look up and wonder where the time went.

Food, seasonality and the land

Food is a big part of life here, so we treat it that way.

We grow as much as we can on the farm and build our menus around what’s actually in season. What we can’t grow, we source as locally as possible — from farmers, makers and suppliers we know and trust.

It keeps things fresher, more interesting, and avoids a lot of unnecessary waste along the way.

We also have our own range of spirits, created with a local distillery and inspired by the Silchester Eagle — one of the most significant Roman finds in the area. It’s a small detail, but it ties what we serve back to where we are, which matters to us.

Alongside that, we work with people like Sapling Spirits, using refillable pouches instead of bottles. For every equivalent sold, trees are planted back into the land here — adding to the rewilding and future foraging on the farm.

More broadly, we try to run things in a way that makes sense:

  • growing and using what we can

  • keeping menus seasonal to avoid excess

  • composting and reusing where possible (coffee grounds included)

  • choosing refillable, natural cleaning products and toiletries

  • buying second-hand and repurposing materials rather than always buying new

  • working with local florists, photographers and makers

Even the sheep play their part — our rare breeds keep the grass down better than most machinery could, and with considerably more character.

There's nowhere quite like Silchester

And we're not just saying that. This small corner of Hampshire happens to sit on the site of Calleva Atrebatum — one of the best preserved Roman towns in Britain, founded as an Iron Age settlement long before much of southern England was even on the map.

Silchester Farm sits right in this ancient Roman city - a place where people have been gathering for thousands of years.

You still feel that when you arrive.

The line of poplar trees leading up to the farm isn’t just for show. Traditionally, poplars were planted around places where people came together — meeting points, shared spaces, moments that mattered. It feels fitting that they now lead people here for exactly the same reason.
