The Drift at Silchester Farm

A collection of hygge Pyggies to sleep in, shop in and work in

The Drift is a brand new area, located right in the heart of Silchetser Farm. It is a collection of 11 Pyggies (people sized pig arcs, with luxurious hygge interiors).

  • The What

9 self contained luxury eco arcs containing:

    King Size Bed

    Ensuite shower rooms

    Kitchenette

    Sofa

    TV & Internet

    Fireplace

  • The Where

Right in the center of the farm, between the Cow Shed and The Granary. Meaning easy access to The Cow Shed and Threshing Barn, and views over the Farm House garden and Kitchen Garden.

  • The When

The first few Pyggies are already in production and we have cleared the area ready for their arrival in just a few weeks time. Between now and then, we will be installing all the utilities, pathways and making it all look extra beautiful. This will all be finished and the first few Pyggies will be in their new home before any weddings begin this year.

As for booking, it is unlikely that the Pgyyies will be ready in time for booking in 2024. However, if anything changes, you will be the first to know!

  • The How

Our Pyggies are hand-built in their snug home just half an hour down the road in Hampshire. They will be delivered fully assembled and carefully dropped into place. This ensures there will be absolutely no disruption to anyone's wedding or special event—no scaffolding, no equipment, no people, no mess!

  • The Who

The Pyggies will be part of the exclusive venue use for weddings. When they become available, they will be optional for existing couples who booked and confirmed their 2025 wedding with us before the 10th of August 2023. However, they have been and will continue to be a compulsory booking element for all new wedding bookings for 2025 and beyond.

Once fully bedded in, the Pyggies will be open for booking on non-wedding dates. You can join us for romantic nights away, family staycations, corporate stays, and more.

  • The Look

The look of the Pyggies, both inside and out, will be totally in keeping with the rest of the farm. Lived in luxury and, as insinuated in their name, embracing the concept of ‘Hygge’ (Hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people).

  • The Cost

Introductory prices start from £250 per Pyggy.

  • The Eco Bit

All heating, cooling, and hot water for the Pyggies will be generated by highly efficient air source heat pumps, all integrated with a new solar power system. The wood used in their construction is sourced from repurposed scaffold boards.

The Pyggies themselves are made locally and the materials that go into them are sourced locally to the manufacturer, meaning that their travel footprint is kept to an absolute minimum.

As usual, as much of the furnishings as possible are either made in the UK or reclaimed vintage.

The FAQs

Can’t see the answer to your question above? Then hopefully our FAQs below will help.

How many people can they sleep?

Each Pyggy contains a king-size bed and sleeps 2 people. Some Pyggies will have space for an additional infant in a travel cot, but this should be discussed with a member of the Silchester Farm team before your stay, and will only be allowed if confirmed in writing by Silchester Farm.

Are the Pyggies wheelchair accessible?

The area of The Drift will be wheelchair accessible, and one of the luxury Pyggies will feature ramp access and interior space suitable for manoeuvring in a wheelchair.

What is included?

The Pyggies are all equipped with air conditioning units that provide both heating and cooling. Each Pyggy is en-suite, and the larger luxury Pyggies feature free-standing baths. They all contain a small kitchen area equipped with a microwave, fridge, kettle, crockery, cutlery, glassware, and tea and coffee making facilities.

For wedding guests, a breakfast of pastries, fruit, cereals, bread, eggs, cheese, and ham is included. For all other bookings, breakfast will be an optional extra and will be outlined during the booking process.

Will there be a Farm Shop Pyggy?

Yes. In addition to the 9 Sleeping Pyggies, there will be a Farm Shop Pyggy and an Office Pyggy. More details about the farm shop will follow in the coming weeks.

Can my friends and family phone up to book and pay for a Pyggy?

At the moment the Pyggies are not open for booking and as such we are still working on the finer details of the booking systems and methods.

Are they bookable externally while my wedding is taking place or is the venue still exclusive use?

The Sleeping Pyggies are reserved exclusively for your use on the day of your wedding and will not be accessible to the public during that time.

What are the details of the farm shop?

We are still working on the finer details of the Shopping Pyggy, such as its opening hours and the items it will stock. It will be open to the public during a wedding, but it will be completely separate and fully fenced off to maintain the exclusivity of all weddings."

Where have the names come from?

A 'drift' is the collective noun for a group of pigs. Since the entire area will be designed with the Hygge concept in mind (Hygge meaning 'a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being') and all structures being pig arcs, we merged the two concepts, and out popped 'Pyggy.

Are they compulsory to book?

For all existing bookings, it is not compulsory to include The Drift. However, for all new bookings for 2025 and beyond, The Drift is a compulsory booking element. Details will be laid out in your contract and fully explained by the Silchester Farm Team before confirming the booking.

Are there different size Pyggies?

Yes, there are 6 standard king-size Pyggies and 3 luxury suite Pyggies.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in and check out times will be exactly the same as the Farm House, Barnhouse and Granary - 2pm check in and 10am check out.

Some of the Pyggies look out over The Cow Shed. Are they still private?

All the Pyggies will be fitted with double curtains, allowing you to draw a lightweight set to ensure privacy while still letting in light during the daytime. Each Pyggy will also be surrounded by lots of lovely planting to create screening from the public areas.

Take a look around

The video below is a virtual mock up of The Drift, to give you an idea of what they look like inside and out and how they are laid out. The real life finished Pyggies will not be exactly the same. The interiors will be decorated and furnished individually and the planting and landscaping around the area may vary from what you see below.
